Dresser Valets

Allan’s Dresser Valet

15″ x 15″ x 5″

Ebony, leather, silver wire

The request from the client for the design of this men’s dresser valet, was for it to be in ebony and have the cast pewter cup in it. After several design concepts were worked through we settled on this one. The silver wire inlays were a surprise I added for the client. I really like the way the silver is set off by the ebony.

Ancient Kauri Valet

12″ x 9″ x 4 1/2″

Ancient Kauri, ebony

The client requested I use flame figured Ancient Kauri for this valet, but he also wanted an ebony inlay to put his keys on so it wouldn’t get beat up so bad. He also wanted a place inside the valet to put his wallet. The molding on the lid is interesting – I cut the curved front edge of the lid and routed a cove in the underside to give you a lip to open it with. Then I re-cut the edge at a slightly sharper curve so the molding is only complete at the middle of the lid, it is completely removed at either end. It gives the front edge of the lid a very interesting shape as the curve of the edge intersects with the curve of the cove molding!
