Who I Am

Woodworking Shop in Maine

I am Ric Washburn. I have had a lifelong passion for working with wood. However, it wasn’t until 2007 that I was able to start my own woodworking business. Before that, I spent 22 years fixing medical equipment – and for 20 of those years, I worked on x-ray equipment specializing in mammography equipment. Before that I was a draftsman. I worked for an engineering firm that was designing the fire detection and alarm systems for a nuclear power plant, another firm that designed rural telephone systems, and a surveying and civil engineering firm as well. I also spent several summers logging and running heavy equipment during college.

Now I live in Appleton, Maine on six wooded acres, with my wife Pearl and our dog. My shop is in a former horse barn that I remodeled into a woodworking shop.

I enjoy reading; especially historical fiction, adventure and mysteries. However, my favorite book of all is the Bible.

I like to build models, usually cars and trucks, but I have also built models of airplanes and ships. I am also hoping to try my hand at building a model of an old sailing ship one of these days.

I also enjoy nature photography and do manage to get a good picture every once in a while. Some of which, you can see here on my website. I enjoy doing portrait drawings from photographs in various medias, from graphite to colored pencils to charcoal and pastels, and I am learning to do them in pyrography as well.
