When I started to turn this vessel, I was planning on doing another vase. However, I had this scrap of spalted cherry that was left over from turning the Mushroom. I couldn’t just throw it away, it looked like it should be a lid for something, so what to do? I cleaned up the shape of my scrap and it became my lid. Because of the lip I had on the lid, I needed to leave the walls of the “vase” thick enough to match. And just like that, my vase became a box!
